Alcaldía de hermandad in the viceroyalty of rio de la plata (1776-1810) (casuistry and jurisprudence)
Abstract
Justice administration during the expedition, in the care of the Majors of the Holy Hermandad, had particular features, different from the administration ordinary Majors used to practice in cities and towns. Hermandad was made up by two types of majors: from the province, appointed by the King or Queen, with jurisdiction in a complete province and seat in the cabildo, and the followers, one per party, of the ones in the province. This study addresses their prerogatives and attributions and the difficulties they faced, the conflicts among themselves and also against military authorities and the complaints against them for their disorganized procedures.
