The first contribution of the chilean bishops to the codification of the canonic law in 1917: the postulata episcoporum
Abstract
The drawing up of the first code of canonic law the Latin Church had was ordered by Pope Pious X in 1904. The codifying task, however, was not the work of a closed group of experts, but rather took the Latin episcopate into account, who was consulted in two different moments; in both, the Chilean Bishops were consulted. Their contribution in the first consultation, in 1904, is studied in this work, based on the documentation kept in the secret Vatican archive.
