Abstract

This article is about the historic development of the codification of Hungarian Private Law, mainly of Civil Law. It shows not only the initial mixed influence of the Roman law and the German Pandectists, but also their subsequent and gradual openness to other legal systems. The recurrent failures of the codification had contextual political and economic reasons. Current private Law, with Hungary joining the EU, has received the contemporary influences in its design.
