Abstract

In this work, the letter that Josep Puig i Cadafalch, president of the Mancomunitat of Catalonia, sent to magistrate Mariano Avellón, inspector of the Courts of Justice, will be analyzed. The central inspection of the Administration of Justice was a body created to supervise judges, magistrates and prosecutors, with the objective that they fulfilled their functions and did not break the law with practices that were not permitted, including corruption, the main cause of disaffection of the population to the courts. We will see the regulations that regulated this public body, in addition to explaining the professional career of the people involved in the events described; we will also examine two ways in which women participate in judicial corruption: on the one hand, as objects of payment for favors and, on the other, as facilitators of pacts with judges and magistrates.
